Method of Nominating CE Candidates

 

  • A CE candidate may be nominated with the support from more than 8% of the members in the Nominating Committee. Each member can only nominate one candidate while each candidate may obtain maximum 1/5 of the votes from the members.
  • A CE candidate may be nominated with signatures from 1% of the qualified voters in Hong Kong (around 35000 voters currently). The nomination period should not be less than two months. The Nominating Committee has no veto power to the result.

 

Election method for the CE

 

  • Two rounds of election are adopted. A candidate will be elected with more than 50% of the votes from the public.
  • If no candidate obtains more than 50% of the votes, the two candidates with the highest votes in the first round of voting will enter the second round of election. The one with more than 50% of the votes will be elected as the CE.
  • If no one obtains more than 50% of votes in the second round, another second round of election must be conducted within six months. The one with more votes wins.
