“Acceptability” implies that there are criteria that rule out a candidate for the office. I’m not talking about age, nationality and standard
things that most places use. In this case, “acceptability” refers to ideology that is in-line with Beijing. You need to define “acceptability” and give a list – in this case, it “pre-selects” people, so there is “sameness” about them, thus narrowing thechoice that the voter has. This also is not democracy. When a CE is sworn into office, he/she has to do the best of their ability in Hong Kong and this implies acceptability. Under “One Country, Two Systems”, we can have a leader with a different ideology as long as they do not advocate independence.

I agree with the writer and I strongly oppose the “pre-select” candidate system for CE election.
